Medicare Care Part D

Save money on your medicine

How can you get Part D?

Medicare Part D is optional coverage for prescription drugs. These prescriptions could be for cholesterol, high blood pressure, or the heart.

There are 2 ways you can have Part D plans.

  1. If you get a Supplemental plan, you’ll have a separate prescription drug plan. We refer to those as stand-alone plans.
  2. If you go with a Medicare Advantage plan, your prescription drug plan is embedded or included within that Advantage plan.
Even if you do not currently take prescription medications, having a drug plan as part of your comprehensive insurance coverage prepares you for the cost of medicine if you get hurt, contract an illness, or get a new diagnosis.

How much does a plan cost?

Stand-alone drug plans will carry a separate premium, anywhere from $7 to maybe $70 per month. If drug coverage is included in the Advantage plan, there will be $0 premiums. You will still have copays but no premium.

How does it work?

All Part D plans will have a network of pharmacies that you can go to, as well as a formulary—or list of meds that the plan will cover.

The most confusing part of all drug plans is the fact that there are four stages

✅ Deductible Stage

✅ Initial Coverage Stage

✅ Coverage Gap – aka “Donut Hole”

✅ Catastrophic Coverage Stage

This means we could have one medication that could change prices four times in any given year based on the stage you are in. So, whether I have a stand-alone plan or a Medicare Advantage embedded drug plan, I will have 4 stages of copays.

Not all plans are the same. And they can be changed annually

At Senior Health Solutions, we work with you to find the right prescription plan. Each Medicare Part D plan is different, so we focus on your needs and compare it to the other available plans. We take into account both your medical requirements and your finances to find the right choice for you. Our providers include nationally-known insurance companies.

As each plan is different, we take into account:

  • Cost of prescriptions

Without Part D insurance the cost of prescriptions can add up quickly, especially if you take prescription medicine daily.

  • Premiums

This is your cost to the insurance company. We find a plan where the premiums make sense based on the drugs you need.

  • Deductibles

Deductibles vary from plan to plan and sometimes from medication to medication.

  • Coverage

Just as plans have different costs, they also provide an array of coverage.

  • Pharmacies

We know you may have a pharmacist you trust. We take into account whether your local pharmacy accepts the plans you are considering.

  • How do I sign up for Medicare Part D?

Once you have chosen the right plan, our professionals oversee the application process and help you every step of the way. We make the process easy. Focusing on your situation, we make sure your needs are met before signing up.
